Travel in the New Normal, Part 1: Navigating Future Travels
Updated: Dec 1, 2020
On August 6, the CDC lifted the global travel health advisory and moved to destination-specific advisories(1). Could this mean that we are getting closer to traveling again? What will the world look like? How difficult has it become to get away? Which destinations are not yet safe, and which ones have strict rules for visitors? There are so many questions to navigate, and there’s no need to do it alone!
As we all begin to sink into the new normal of going about our daily lives (distanced and masked), we are continually looking for ways that we can serve our clients well. One of the most important roles I now have as a travel advisor is to stay current as rules and regulations shift around the world in light of the pandemic's ebbs and flows. This became a heightened reality for me recently as we advised a client on how they could still enjoy an Alaskan vacation despite having to get a rapid COVID test two days before traveling.
This new experience highlighted for me three things that will be the most critical in our travels moving forward, which we will cover in this series:
The Importance of Using a Travel Advisor
Planning travel was already fairly complex before the added cautions and complications that COVID has brought. Why not get help managing all of these details? A great travel advisor will help their clients navigate this new terrain. We’ll look at the reasons this will save travelers time and stress and why it’s no longer worth “going it alone.”
The Importance of Purchasing Travel Insurance
With many destinations requiring COVID tests before arrival and a flurry of things that can go wrong leading up to a trip, it makes even more sense now to have insurance that covers travelers in case of illness, accident, or emergency. We’ll look at what travelers should know about travel insurance, what’s typically covered, and what’s not. We’ll also look at the impact of the pandemic on travel insurance policies and claims.
The Importance of Choosing the Right Travel Suppliers
The pandemic has hit travel companies hard…so hard, in fact, that many won’t make it through this crisis. In addition to suppliers’ economic health, it’s a critical time to know the flexibility policies of suppliers right now. We’ll look at several aspects of choosing travel companies in this new normal - what to look for and what to avoid.
Journey with us as we all learn how to love and enjoy traveling even when conditions are not the most ideal. Together, we’ll get through it and continue to make amazing memories!
