Recommitting & Refocusing in 2021
Happy New Year! Can you believe 2020 is finally over? I cannot remember a time in my life when a specific year was so maligned. We will forever associate 2020 with the year a novel coronavirus strain declared war on us. Even though we are still dealing with the virus as we go into 2021, I'm hopeful that things will begin improving as we march forward. As I reflect on this past year and how my own life and business was taken over by COVID in many ways, I feel like it's time to take back control as much as possible. I want to refocus and return to our foundations. When I started GlobeSage, my goal was to be very intentional about our place in the travel sphere. Our passion is designing custom trips for the thoughtful explorer - a globe sage. A sage is a wise person. When I think of my own travels, I want to be wise about how I interact with the world. To me, wise doesn't mean "know-it-all", nor does a wise person feel the need to tell everyone else how to live. To me, a wise person is teachable, humbly acknowledges what they don't know, and is always learning and growing. And that's the kind of traveler I want to be. This year, we will hold in tension our focus on being globe sages with the fact that we still have to contend with the pandemic. In 2021, we will return to our mission of growing and learning how to be more thoughtful in our travels. We don't just mean being "green" and sustainable. Instead, we want to look more holistically about our travel having a positive social impact environmentally, culturally, and economically on the communities we visit. When we talk about the sustainability of travel, we want to engage thoughtfully with other cultures, leave things better than we found them, and always grow in being a more conscientious traveler. We will never claim to be perfect. In fact, we're far from it. But we will be continually looking for ways to integrate this holistic way of thinking into our planning. We partner with some travel companies who do this really well, and we look forward to working with them more and learning from them as we all begin traveling again.
So here's to the new year and renewed focus. We hope you'll join us on the journey!
